Oracle WebLogic — from config to production

WebLogic Server since 2002 — installation, clustering, tuning, migrations 11g → 14c. Production clusters at T-Mobile, PZU, Wipro and Orange.

01 / What we do with WebLogic

Full environment lifecycle

From first installation to migration to a newer version. We do what a production engineer does — not a slide-deck consultant.

Version migrations

We move WebLogic from 11g to 12c or 14c — upgrading in place or in parallel, on a fresh install. Always with a rollback plan, tests after the switch and 30 days of monitoring. If your version no longer gets security patches, we plan the migration ahead of time — before an incident forces it.

11g (10.3.6) → 12.2.1.4 / 14c · side-by-side, zero downtime with LB 12.1.3 → 12.2.1.4 LTS · in-place, 1–2 day maintenance window 14c → Kubernetes (WKO) · cluster replatforming

Check your version's risk

Three answers — a preliminary risk rating and migration target based on Oracle's support policy. The final one comes from a compatibility assessment, not from a promise that nothing in the code will change.

01 Which version runs in production?
02 What is the system's status?
03 When do you need the decision?
Oracle support dates for all versions and sources
  • WebLogic 11g (10.3.6) and 12.1.3 — Sustaining Support only: no new fixes or security patches. Every new CVE stays unpatched.
  • 12.2.1.4 (LTS) — Premier Support until 12.2026, Extended Support until 12.2027. What Extended actually covers depends on your Oracle agreement — we check the contract rather than assume.
  • 14.1.1 — not an LTS release. Oracle states error correction ends 31 Dec 2027 (extended from Dec 2026) — confirm the date on My Oracle Support.
  • 14.1.2 — suite release from 12.2024. Oracle states Premier Support to 2030 and Extended to 2033. The default target when you want to limit application-side changes — after a mandatory compatibility assessment.
  • 15.1.1 (WebLogic 15c, Jakarta EE 9.1) — migration usually requires javax.*jakarta.* changes, JDK updates, descriptors and dependencies. Oracle ships Rewrite WebLogic / OpenRewrite recipes, but the application team still has to be involved.

Sources: Oracle Lifetime Support Policy ("Sustaining Support" = no error correction or security patches); Oracle, Fusion Middleware Statement of Direction (13 May 2026); Oracle, End of Premier and Extended Support for Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c (29 Apr 2026); Oracle communication on the 14.1.1 error-correction extension (as of 12 Sep 2026). Confirm the dates against your own support agreement.

07 / FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No answer here? Write to us — an engineer replies, not HR.

How long does a WebLogic environment audit take and what does it include?
5 business days for a typical environment (1–10 managed servers). The report includes: domain configuration state, JVM/GC/thread pool analysis, JDBC connection pools, security vulnerabilities (Oracle CPU patches, SSL/TLS), performance issues detected in monitoring, 20+ prioritised recommendations (P0/P1/P2), optional stress test. Price: from 4,990 PLN net. Clusters >10 managed servers — individual quote.
Do you offer SLAs for production environments?
Yes. Premium 7/24 package: SLA 15 min response, 4 h P1 resolution, 24/7/365 on-call (including nights and weekends), contractual penalties agreed in the contract. Care 5/8 package: SLA 4 h response during business hours (Mon-Fri 9-17), 1 day P1 resolution. Enterprise: individual SLA with penalties, dedicated named engineer, external audits (KNF/ISO/GDPR).
Can you migrate 11g → 12c or 14c without production downtime?
Yes, two approaches: (1) In-place upgrade — faster (1–2 days), but requires a maintenance window; (2) Side-by-side — parallel 12c/14c environment, domain/application migration, switchover (zero downtime with load balancer). Every migration includes: backup, rollback plan, smoke tests, post-migration monitoring for 30 days. We have run migrations in telco (Java EE 5 → 8) and in banking (production clusters).
What technologies do you integrate with WebLogic?
Databases: Oracle DB (RAC, DataGuard), DB2, MS SQL, MariaDB/MySQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL. OS: RHEL/Oracle Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Windows Server. Cloud: OCI, AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware vSphere. K8s: WebLogic Kubernetes Operator (WKO). Web tier: Apache (mod_wl), OHS, Nginx, IIS, F5 BIG-IP, HAProxy. Monitoring: Oracle Enterprise Manager, Prometheus + Grafana, Splunk, ELK. Security: LDAP/AD, SAML, OAuth2, PKI / HSM integration.
How does WebLogic cluster performance tuning work?
Four layers: (1) JVM-Xms/-Xmx, GC algorithm (G1 for most, ZGC for low-latency), heap dump on OOM, JFR. (2) WebLogic — thread pool (work managers, capacity), JDBC pools (initial/max/test on reserve), EJB pools, HTTP keep-alive, session timeout. (3) Application — query optimization (EXPLAIN), N+1, lazy loading, caching strategies. (4) OS/net — ulimit (open files, processes), TCP keepalive, NFS sync mode, storage IOPS. We measure every change before/after (JFR + thread dumps + heap dumps).
How do we start working together?
Most common path: (1) you fill in the contact form or write to [email protected]; (2) within 24 h an engineer (not HR) responds with 3–4 technical questions (WLS version, number of managed servers, main issues); (3) 30-min video call with CEO/engineer; (4) offer with scope, timeline and price in 48–72 h. NDA signed as standard. For urgent P0 (production down) — response within 1 h.
